Over the years I have made many detailed paintings of a single tree in this narrow format. The tree and leaves are copper leaf, and the leaves are set against a dark sky. Among the leaves are many books with some falling from the tree. Sitting in the tree is the God of Wisdom in the form of an owl from which the title, Tree of Wisdom, emanates.

Under the tree among the roots are a mass of flowers and fungi with a few more books that have gently fallen. I love painting these little detailed pictures, I could say I get carried away with the details!

I paint two or three similar images each year as I love painting all the layers while I listen to a constant stream of plays etc on Radio 4.
